Charles Martyn, who was Chaplain to Queen Victoria, became the rector of Daglingworth in 1892. He was the chairman of the first Parish Council. The Parish Councillors discussed a wide range of subjects, including street lighting, the mortuary, a fire engine, a telegraph office, obstructions in the stream, stone-throwing among the boys, allotments, was nests, the reading room.
An important topic of discussion was the celebration of Queen Victoria’s Jubilee. To commemorate her jubilee, they considered planting of a lime tree avenue, a clock tower for the church, an annual flower show, a parish dinner, a brass mural tablet and book ledges in the church. There is no record of what the celebrations involved. However, we know that the Wellington in Tarry Cottage garden was planted to celebrate the Jubilee.
